Our Favorite Family Friendly Austin Pools

Here in Central Texas, we’re blessed with a bevy of great places to swim. They all have their own charms, but some are better for families than others.

Here are some of the best family-friendly places to swim and hang as a family in Austin:

Emma Long Park

A great little spot down FM2222, this beach is a perfect fit for the entire family, including your four-legged friend. It’s $5/car entry, and it’s just far enough off the beaten trail that’s it’s almost never crowded. The sandy area has shallow, wading depths with a slight wave from passing boats. Grab County Line BBQ on your way back into town or make a weekend out of it-- camp here for $10-$20/night.

Deep Eddy Pool

Barton Springs more polished cousin, Deep Eddy Pool is just as centrally located and is actually fed from the same spring. So yes, we’re fudging the category a bit, but you wouldn’t know Deep Eddy’s natural roots just by looking. We’re judging this book by it’s cover. The oldest pool in Texas boasts big shade trees, a ‘beach-style’ entrance, and a lap-swimming area.

Bartholomew Pool

This swimming pool was renovated in 2014, so it’s one of the shinier new pools in town. It has a toddler pool with fountains that’s 2’ 6” deep at the deepest, a 4’ deep pool with a lily pad bridge for bigger kids to hang in, and two big water slides for kiddos over 48 inches tall. There’s a picnic area where you’re allowed to eat outside food, so pack a lunch!

Barton Springs Pool

This is the obvious crown jewel of Austin’s pools. The 70-year-old pool is a mandatory part of the ‘Austin Experience.’ There’s a shallow end (the south end!) for smaller kids, and for older kids, there’s a diving board and plenty of space for games of Marco Polo. With 3-acres of spring fed glory and home to the Barton Springs Salamander, Barton Springs just can’t be beat.
