How to Fight Allergies With Yoga

ACHOOOO! Allergy season is definitely upon us here in Texas (does it ever end?). It seems that nothing is safe from the fine yellow dust settling on every surface, and no one is safe from the congestion, watery eyes, and fatigue that come along with it. Oak pollen, y’all.

For many of us, the symptoms of these allergies are mild, but nonetheless annoying. So what’s a parent to do when their children are spending the first glorious days of spring stuffed up? While those with severe allergies should see a doctor, if the symptoms are more of an inconvenience or a nuisance, there are several yoga poses families can do to minimize the symptoms of allergies.

Inverted poses are excellent for mild allergy sufferers! When you tip your body so that your heart is above your head, the magic happens. These poses help battle fatigue and increases the flow of blood (re: oxygen) and lymph, the vehicle for white blood cells. Ultimately, the greater supply of blood and lymph can open sinuses and help your body flush out blockages (re: pollen!).

Here are a few of our favorites the whole family can enjoy:
